Country Shows in the Lake District

There’s always been a love for country shows in the Lake District. They’re undoubtedly a British tradition, providing farmers and locals a chance to celebrate their livestock and homegrown produce.

Country Fest – 1st and 2nd June

The Westmorland County Showground near Kendal is only a 25-minute drive from Aphrodite’s Lodge. Ideal if you’re looking for a last minute package break in the Lake District. It also hosts the first of our country shows in the Lake District.

Cumberland County Show – 15th June

Next month also sees one of the biggest and most popular agriculture shows in the Lake District. Taking place North of the Lakes, the Cumberland Show has attracted visitors for over 180 years and continues to follow traditions.

Coniston Country Fair – 21st July

Another of the traditional country shows in the Lake District can be reached by taking a river cruise on the Lakes. As well as livestock and naturally grown produce, participants also take part in a number of Cumbrian traditions.

Ambleside Sports – 25th July

Likewise, when it comes to local traditions Ambleside Sports is a sporting event with a difference. One of the highlights being a chance to sit down and watch some Westmorland Wrestling.

Cockermouth Show – 3rd August

Expect local hotels to book up early ahead of this particular agricultural show in the Lake District. As after all, Cockermouth is normally one of Cumbria’s quieter areas.

Cartmel Show – 7th August

The racecourse at Cartmel Park is a small yet challenging track. Its horseracing meets often attracting almost as many spectators as other popular jump tracks at Aintree and Cheltenham. August, however, also pulls in the crowds with a number of events.

Lowther Show – 10th and 11th August

While it may be one of the lesser known country shows in the Lake District, the Lowther show stretches over 2 days. As such ideal, if you’re considering a traditional package break in the Lake Districting during the height of summer.

Hawkshead Show – 20th August

This is one of the country shows in the Lake District with a personal connection to our spa hotel in Windermere. Or rather one of Windermere’s most famous residents, as author Beatrix Potter was often known to enter her own livestock to be judged in Hawkheads best in show.

Keswick Show – 26th August

Book a package break in the Lake District over the August bank holiday and you could find yourself visiting Keswick for the day. It’s a scenic drive to the Keswick show through the heart of the Lake District. Alternatively, why not get the bus!

Westmorland County Show – 12th September

The Westmorland County Show is not only one of the most popular Country Shows in the Lake District, but often considered one of the best in England. Although don’t take our word for, why not join the 30,000 visitors that regularly pass through its gates each year.
