10 Lake District Attractions

With so many Lake District Attractions, we sometimes need to remind ourselves to get out and about. Although a package break at one of our spa hotels in the Lake District come with private hot tubs, you still have to dry yourself out sooner or later!

Take a look at the following Lake District attractions, all of which are open throughout the summer.

Wray Castle, Windermere

The mock-Gothic stately home dates back to 1840 and is ideal to visit during a package break in Windermere. Especially during the summer, with plenty of things to do within the grounds.

Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway

While the high-speed trains of today serve their purpose, there’s always going to be something special about riding on a steam train. So jump aboard and head off through the Lake District in style.

Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top Farmhouse

As well as visiting the World of Beatrix Potter in Windermere, head over to Hill Top in Near Sawrey. After the famous author passed away in 1943, the farmhouse was left to the National Trust, its doors opened to the public.

Lakeland Motor Museum

If you’re a motor enthusiast or just interested in the more obvious Lake District Attractions, then take a walk around the Lakeland Motor Museum.

Lakeland Climbing Centre

Perfect for the adventurous on a rainy day, the Lakeland Climbing Centre is the chance to practice your skills in a safe environment.

Mirehouse and Gardens

As for those other popular attractions, Mirehouse and Gardens were named Visitor Attraction of the Year at 2017 by Cumbria’s Tourism Awards. Two years on and they continue to welcome 100’s of visitors each summer.

Rydal Mount and Gardens

Another historical house in the Lake District proud of its outdoor area is that of Rydal Mount. Once the family home of poet William Wordsworth.

Honister Slate Mine

At the Honister Slate Mine, you can enjoy an underground tour of the mines, gaining an insight into the industry. Alternatively, up above there’s a climbing course suspended 1,200 feet above the valley.

Castlerigg Stone Circle

The English Heritage site is full of mystery and intrigue. Constructed at some point between the Neolithic and Early Bronze Ages.
